'''Inserts''' 是 channel strip 内任意位置的 signal tap points。与 aux 不同，inserts **中断** signal flow：把 insert 点之前的信号送给其 '''Insert send(s)'''，并把 channel strip 剩余部分连接到 '''Insert return(s)'''——两者均为 audio device 或 JACK ports。

创建 insert 时，signal 会保持中断，直到建立到 insert ports 的连接。JACK ports 对其他 JACK applications 可见；ALSA ports 仅用于在电脑外连接音频设备。要插入软件 processor 首选 plugin；无 plugin 可用时用 jackd backend（某些较老的 JACK clients 需要）。

Inserts 与 analog console 的 inserts 相同，只是不像 analog console 上的多数 jacks 那样 normalled。可用于接入非 plugin 的特殊外部 DSP JACK application，或把 external analog gear（vintage compressor、tube equalizer 等）嵌入 channel strip：inserts 先连到一对 hardware ports，再连到 outboard gear（在 *Insert* dialog 的 *Send/Output* 与 *Return/Input* 标签页操作）。

Dialog 还提供：connections matrix、Send/Output 的 output gain 与 phase inversion 切换，以及 insert 的 latency 测量与补偿。Inserts 会带来额外 latency——可在混音时测量并补偿，但**不能**在 tracking 时补偿。

点击 processor box 中的 LED 可 bypass 该 insert。
